Our school community is known for our diversity, commitment to social emotional literacy, and multifaceted parent involvement. Within my classroom, my students are a group of vibrant and highly active second and third graders. Recognizing the individualized ways that different students learn best, a pattern that I have observed among my students is that they prefer learning with their hands and having the freedom to sit around the room and away from desks and chairs--defining their work space and making themselves more comfortable with communal small area rugs and cushions when they are available. Currently, technology is the most impacting barrier to the flow of students' classroom work-time, as it does not allow the mobility that they are so successful with and as the positioning of the computer screen easily distracts students working nearby when in use.
