We are an elementary school filled with wonderful students who come from a variety of cultures and experiences. We are in a high-need community and our students face a lot of challenges. Many students come from homes where parents are doing everything that they can to simply make ends meet. This creates challenges for students because they are often the one responsible for getting themself and siblings to school. A recent study showed that students who are chronically absent AND come from a low income home are more likely to not graduate from high school, even when that chronic absenteeism occurs in the elementary school. Every year that they are chronically absent doubles their chances of not graduating. Our school wants to impact student attendance and get the kids to school, where they can learn and be successful!
