I have worked in a Title 1 school for the past decade. So many people who are making decisions for them assume they know so much about technology and can navigate so easily through these state mandated tests Ondine. I have struggled to get the message out that they are not using the same tools we adults think they are. Due to our population of immigrants and minorities, they lack the experiences other schools have. I believe once they have the opportunities which is what poverty is lacking those experiences they will thrive to learn the world beyond the pen and paper. They are eager to learn given the chance and the best quote to express this is: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." My students need all three components. They will rise to the level of expectation put before them if they know what the final outcome should be. I believe that is "embrace the 21st century learner profile" ! Critically think about any text put in front of you!
