I teach at a Title I School, which is designated as such because a majority of the students live below the poverty line. Their ethnic make up is primarily Latino and African-American. Most of my students have experienced adult struggles. They have dealt with the criminal justice system, unexpected pregnancy, and foster parents, yet they still manage to maintain a sense of childhood wonder in their own ways. As young people their political views are strife with wonder, anger and righteousness.
