My AP English students are driven, diligent, and passionate. Their passion has especially been apparent this year, when I revamped my curriculum to focus more on social justice. That is when I saw them use their academic abilities to have real-world impacts and to express their commitment to bettering their communities. Like us, they hunger for more diverse literature to read, like this graphic novel memoir, because they know that it is an important stepping stone to increasing representation and therefore, social justice.
