Our elementary school is a rural school with approximately 100 students and is one of Vermont's smaller PreK to 6th schools. We are currently in our second year of establishing our maker space. Through its use we have seen firsthand how our students thrive when given opportunities for hands-on, inquiry-based learning. As a rural school, students often feel disconnected from their neighbors. They lack access to the authentic learning opportunities commonly afforded to students in urban and more established communities. Our students need the chance to be the guides of their own learning. We believe our maker space along with the projects we hope to offer provide such an opportunity.
