My students come from a high poverty area. Reading is not a priority in many of the households here. They can be reluctant to read, but if they find an engaging story, they suddenly become interested and have fun, not realizing they are actually learning! Our school is a safe place for them. It has been described as an oasis amidst a bunch of chaos. The students like being here and like being a part of my history class. I hope this will help engage them in history even more.
