As the end of the year approaches, student engagement in reading for pleasure is overshadowed by end of year testing. I am attempting to revamp my classroom so that I can hold their attention and love for reading throughout the remainder of the school year. Having a variety of text that is colorful and engaging will allow them to continue to read shorter books that they can finish during this time period. My hope is that this will create a spark that will encourage them to continue to read throughout the summer and into the next school year. Reading is vitally important to sustain the achievements they have made throughout the year and creates a bridge to the next school term.
