I teach hyper and sweet Kindergarteners in a Title 1 school in a low socioeconomic neighborhood with limited access to technology. At least 75% of my school receives free and reduced lunch. We serve a majority of English language learners, including immigrant families and refugees. 97% of my students are coming into kindergarten below grade-level without knowing their alphabet letters, letter sounds, or numbers. My students are energetic and eager to learn but they have not grown up in literature- and technology-rich environments that would stimulate such learning. By creating a technology-rich classroom through the daily use of iPads and providing students access to interactive reading materials and educational games, I will be able to bridge this gap and bring all of my students up to grade level. By December, my goal is for all of my students to know the alphabet letters, letter sounds, and numbers, and by the end of the year for all of my students to be on grade-level or above.
