This is a social club that I would like to offer to all students attending Mendenhall Middle School. This group would take place during lunch recess and provide board, card, and games of skills for students to participate in. Although I would be present during the club meeting to provide guidance and assistance to specific students, I would like the meeting to be student driven. The purpose of the group is: 1. Develop social communication skills in a peer environment 2. Help forge new friendships 3. Learn good sportsmanship 4. Develop cooperative learning skills 5. Learn non electronic based games that require human interaction 6. Expand gaming interests 7. Provide typical peer models for students with social communication deficits 8. Provide peer teaching, learning, and leadership opportunities The skills addressed in this group are ones that all students benefit in developing. This social group will provide a more realistic setting for interaction than formal therapy for students with social communication deficits. In addition, this group will also help students that are shy, new to the school and want to make friends, or students that just want to develop new interests.
