I have twenty second grade students in an English Language Development classroom. The students in my classroom are in different levels of English Development. I have some who are almost proficient, but I have some who are barely starting to learn the language. The majority are second language learners who just need that extra push to be proficient. They are always eager to learn, and try out new things in the classroom. The most fascinating part about them is that they instantly integrate new knowledge in their lives. For example, they start using vocabulary words such as miserable or delighted right after our mini-lessons to replace the words happy and sad. They do this with every aspect of our school day. Many times they want to learn more than what is required by them, and ask if they can read a story or write without being prompted. Our school is located in a large city. The majority of our school population come from low social economic status.
