My classroom is a self-contained Special Education class in a Title I (high poverty) school. The ten children, age 7-13, in my classroom have disabilities that prevent them from participating and learning effectively in a regular inclusion classroom. Nevertheless, we are motivated and we overcome our obstacles! Being a self-contained special education classroom, our kids represent a wide range of ages, abilities, grades and intellectual levels. My kids also have a variety of disabilities of varying levels of severity, but their disabilities do not define them. We seek to instill in our special education students an ethic of hard work and a pride in self. Each of these dear children matter. Each of them is important to their families, their teachers, their school, and their community. I hope that they might also be important to the generous people here at DonorsChoose.org!
