I have several students in my class on the Autism Spectrum, as well as students with speech impediments that inhibit their confidence in speaking in front of others. In second grade we have speaking and listening standards that require the students to speak audibly in front of the class (CCSS SL2.4) as well as create audio recordings of stories or poems (CCSS SL2.5). I teach at a low-income, Title I school. My class has a high number of ELL (English-Language Learner) students where Spanish is the only language spoken at home.
