Many students in a Technical Theatre classroom are what some might consider an "antsy" or even "rebellious" student. These are the type of students who can't detach their minds from their bodies. Technical Theatre provides a necessary outlet for students to explore immediate cause and effect, brainstorming, problem solving, accountability, and collaboration. These students, who might be other teacher's most rambunctious students, thrive in a hands-on environment that allows them to find their own way through the learning process. Compared to all the other high schools in our area, our school pulls from very low-income neighborhoods. Many students find Technical Theatre to be one of the only places they can learn practical life skills on safe and reliable equipment. The training we provide can facilitate a lifetime of self-empowered work, in or out of the theatre world.
