As an educator and a lifelong learner it is my responsibility to research effective classroom strategies. I have found flexible seating allows for movement and student choice; both have been found to improve student engagement and motivation. With flexible seating options my students will have the opportunity to choose their learning space which will give them ownership in their learning. Kindergartners need to move around their environment to explore and build their knowledge. Students who need to wiggle and move can sit on a wobble cushion or a yoga ball or use Bouncy Bands. Students who like it quiet may choose a yoga mat, stack stool or a rocker chair. Flexible seating meets all students' needs. Kindergartners like to move while they learn and the flexible seating will set the foundation for a collaborative learning environment. Learning in kindergarten does not require a desk and a name tag! Please help me provide my 21st century kindergartners flexibility and choice in their learning.
