The majority of my students are from low income families in the Appalachian area of the United States. Many of them have not been exposed to simple things, such as, a mall, or a nice restaurant. Drug addiction is rampant and foster care for them is common. They are eager to learn and I enjoy seeing their faces when they "get it". Our school has been recently built and we love it. We now have air conditioning and the kids have a real playground! We have many new technological conveniences but they came when the building was built. We are now limited on what we can request. The students enjoy hands-on activities, along with the reading and writing, which is to my advantage because science is all about experiments and experiences. You know they enjoy science when they bring ideas of questions of their own for the class to research.
