Behavior issues and distraction are reduced in a flexible seating environment. “The behaviors of my students who have exhibited aggressive or distracting behaviors in the past have significantly decreased,” states a teacher in our building who uses flexible seating. There is power for them in the choice to select where they will work. They know the work isn’t optional, but choosing where they work is. With the few flexible seating options I have in my room, it helps my students become more self-aware of what types of seating and environment help them learn best. They're empowered by the opportunity to have choices.
