Our school, a Detroit Public Schools "Priority" school, is located in a high-poverty neighborhood in Detroit where 100% of students receive free lunch. However, these statistics never shake my scholars' spirits; they come to school everyday bursting with energy and bubbling over with passion and zest for learning. In our classroom, we frequently discuss working with urgency, because "we have so much learning to do" (after all, we are trying to grow our brains to be ready for second grade)!
