For the past 18 years I have taught in a district of poverty with 100% of the students at our school on free and reduced lunch. Our students come from homes with few if any books and little experience reading or having someone read to them. Their primary source of exposure to literature and books is at school. Part of our school mission is to create life long learners. To create life long learners we need to develop strong readers. In our school and in my classroom you will see students building their stamina for reading throughout the day in an effort to develop those stronger readers.
