I teach a heterogeneous grouping of 6th grade students in a Title 1 middle school in Endicott, NY. I teach 5 sections of science, with an average of 22-26 students in each class. Our classroom is one with a positive climate, where all students are treated with respect and the belief that each of us has our own unique skills and talents that we can use to be whoever we want to be. Through an inquiry-based approach to learning, we see that science is FUNdaMENTAL as we engage in both "hands-on" and "minds-on" learning opportunities. Our classroom is a student-focused environment where responsibility is practiced and all students are challenged and engaged in meaningful learning. I strongly believe that all students can be successful when in the appropriate setting. Routines are fundamental in an atmosphere where support is continuously available for all students.
