Our school is located in Miami, FL and it is a Title 1 school. Ninety-five percent of our population is Hispanic and about 15% of our students are ESE. The majority of our students are in free and reduced lunch and have parents that work two or three jobs in order to make ends meet. As families of Latin descent, it usually falls on the grandparents to take care of the students. However, these grandparents do not speak the language so the students face the responsibility of homework with no one at home that can assist them. I find this is one of the reasons that we need to make sure that while they are in school, the students have all of the necessary material/electronics/accessories needed in order to allow them to be competitive in the work force once their education is complete. Being able to Industry Certify, our students will allow them to find work and help at home as soon as possible after completing these courses.
