My school is going through restructuring due to Program Improvement. We are also a Title I school, which means that at times it is difficult for my students to get their hands on new books that they can use for as long as they need. They all have library cards and we are doing work with our local library to help them increase their collection of young adult literature, but as of right now my students often do not put books on hold because it can take a long time for it to be their turn. As a result they are dependent on their parents buying them the book. We have a strong classroom donation program, and book swap, however we don't have multiple copies of books for the students to read these new books in groups with their peers to be discussed in class. As a result, many of them are not excited about reading. Our goal is to find books that are interested, contemporary, and relevant to their lives now. Since the community has limited resources it is my job to acquire the books.
