First grade students are learning how to recognize and decode words. These decodable readers focus on phonics skills that are essential for new readers. Repeated reading of decodable text builds students' knowledge of patterns and builds their fluency. These readers will give students the appropriate amount of words within a text to identify then practice that particular skill. When one skill is mastered these texts will then provide a bridge to the next skill in the reading sequence. My students will gain a love of reading as well as build a strong literate foundation.
