My students at first glance may seem like your typical middle school students, but if you look deeper you will see how exceptional they are. My students are some of the most accepting kids I have ever meet. For example, one time during a reward, some of the students had decided to play basketball. During this time two of the special needs students were chasing each other on and off the basketball court. The students playing basketball never got upset that their game kept getting interrupted, but instead allowed it and made sure to keep an eye on the two boys so no one would get hurt. This level of kindness and acceptance is rare to see, but I find these acts of kindness throughout my school all the time. My students are low income and are faced with many challenges everyday. However, helping them realize their many talents and strengths enables them to overcome those challenges and grow into successful people.
