I have a dream to change the way my students start the day - Ditch the traditional "morning worksheets"! This project provides materials for "Good Morning Tubs". These tubs will be filled with open-ended literacy, math and STEM activities that are hands-on and fun. I believe the "Good Morning Tubs" will give my students a way to begin their day with a relaxed start that allows social interaction and collaboration with each other as they explore the tub activity of their choice. Students trickle in the classroom at different times each morning before that tardy bell rings. Some arrive early, some go to breakfast, bus and car riders arrive at various times. These hands-on tubs will allow all students to begin the day "not behind" on the morning worksheet no matter the time of their arrival. They will have the opportunity for up to 35 minutes of free flow exploration based on their arrival time until the tardy bell and morning announcements begin. They will be excited to get to class, explore and visit with their classmates while engaged in active learning. The ideas for these "Good Morning" Tubs are endless. The tubs will rotate each week to keep them fresh and exciting. Some of the tools I would like to have are a variety of types of blocks for them to create projects. Memory games and puzzles to develop problem solving skills as well as fine motor skill development. Math games that excite them to practice a variety of skills. STEM activities that develop critical thinking. Art things for them to create too! Help me make this project a reality for my students to engage their wonder, learning possibilities and social skills with a fun, engaging, active start to the day!
