These resources will contribute to an already existing project our ESL teachers have begun. Research demonstrates the positive impact of lap-reading in early childhood, from story comprehension to social learning. Therefore, we seek to provide all students with opportunities to interact with members of their support systems over texts they enjoy. We procure bilingual texts, create recordings of school community members reading in both languages, and attach QR codes that can be scanned to access the audio. Texts are then loaned to students in the building who do not have literate adults at home. Through this project, we partner with families to create positive literacy experiences, habits, and identities in a culturally responsive manner.
