I teach 7th and 8th grade Social studies for the New York City Department of Education. Many of my students are first generation children in America, where many of their parents came from South America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. I have never encountered such a wealth of diversity just in one classroom. Each day, they offer questions, challenges, and responses that remind me as to why I became a teacher. My school runs a Kindergarten-8th grade program. I feel incredibly supported as a teacher from the administration, my colleagues, and the surrounding community.
