Many of my students are significantly below grade level. There are many factors that play into this. Our school has a high population of low income students; about 80%, special education students, and ELS students. Children who live in poverty come into the school system with a huge disadvantage. Their vocabulary is usually significantly lower than that of their peers, because of not having great literature at home and not being read to as much as peers in the middle or upper class before entering school. These 6 and 7 year old children are our future. And I want to provide them with the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and become something great! I will do everything in my power to make this happen. These babies will persevere and succeed!
