Kids in my class have ownership over their own learning and a lot of what goes on happens organically. I have a plan, but it's flexible and I read the kids the best I can to make good decisions about where we should go. Kids often select their own projects, sometimes even design them, and are largely motivated by their own interests as they pertain to the skills of our learning community. Rather than enabling students to passively sit back, I encourage students to be advocates for their own learning. As it says in the Harry Potter series, 'help will always be provided to those who need it.' I can also say that help will especially be provided to all who seek it out. I am always available to my kids via email, social media, text, in class or by appointment/conference. I'm 100% there to make their learning experience positive and to facilitate individualized learning.
