There are times when my students actually teach themselves and I become the facilitator, giving them the freedom to forge their own paths in learning. There are times when they are hampered, however, by stilted technology. Though our school is the largest in the state, we have a long way to go to become technologically competitive. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic levels, but they all share a strong desire to learn, to lead, and to contribute to society. I firmly believe that these students will be the doctors, lawyers, teachers, inventors, and leaders of tomorrow, and I believe providing them with the latest technological tools will give them the edge they need to succeed. I am always amazed at how quickly they learn to use technology and learn from technology. As their advanced placement English teacher, I want to foster such learning by providing them with tools that will give them that edge.
