My amazingly diverse second grade students come from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Many are English language learners who speak Vietnamese or Spanish at home, with a large percentage of the families speaking little or no English. We are a Title I school that has a high rate of free and reduced lunch students. This means that our families are of a lower socioeconomic status, with many of our students living in poverty. Despite the challenges that my students face, they are always so eager to learn and grow. It is, indeed, a pleasure to provide them new and exciting learning opportunities! Using art integration makes learning fun for ALL kids and gives ALL students a way to communicate. It is so exciting to see their happy faces as they learn to create and make beauty. This year, I hope to give my students many chances to express their understanding of concepts through creative and artistic applications.
