Our school garden has been instrumental with promoting hands-on learning that could not be accomplished in the indoor classroom. Students are able to explore the garden, increase fine and gross motor skills and learn vocational skills to be used in a post-secondary setting. The materials I am requesting will help my students and I to organize our school garden shed and provide a potting table where they can plant starter seedlings. Students with autism need organization and structure in order to be successful in accessing our outdoor classroom. These items will allow us to place our garden equipment in a specific location and label with words and pictures so students are able to find hand tools, watering cans, shovels and other garden items. With this organization, our lessons will teach students to independently find their specific tool for the task at hand. These items will be in the same place each time and not placed in the shed in an unorganized manner. I also requested a pair of gloves for each student so they do not have to share the gloves, especially during these current times.
