My special needs students are amazing young adults ages 18-22 with various limiting disabilities who are in a transition program with me to learn hands-on employability skills. They learn these skills through working at our school gift shop. The name of our store is Falcon Gift Shop. Here, students learn to use a cash register, inflate balloons with helium, take inventory of merchandise, fill out time sheets and work in teams. Students create many items in our store to sell. the money they make gets returned back into the school business. My students go weekly out in the community in search of competitive pricing for items we sell most. We have had many visitors to our school store from the community because everyone is in awe in how my students learn so much. At the end of my program, my students learn the skills needed to obtain employment in any retail setting such as a grocery store, Party City, clothing store, etc.
