The students in my second grade class come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as families who are non-English speaking. These students struggle with learning the English language, and with connecting what they are learning to the tasks that are required of them. While my students come from a lower income community, there is no shortage of excitement and enthusiasm in their learning. They love to try new skills and play games that help in supporting their learning, and seeing how these connect to meeting the personal goals that they have established in the classroom. Many of my students do not have technology in the home, and are only exposed to it in the school setting. They are quick learners, and are like sponges - soaking up every thing that interests them with an incredible speed, always left wanting more.
