The amazing school where I work is in a low socioeconomic area. It is a California Distinguished School. The children that I work with are mostly Hispanic and come from families who struggle to make ends meet. About 90% receive free or reduced price lunch. Even though these families have no money to give towards education, they are very generous people. They give of their time by volunteering at our school and in my classroom. I am fortunate because I worked with all 29 of my students last year. Most of my students are high academically and have a strong desire to learn and question the world around them.
Unfortunately, several of my students are overweight and have little to no physical activity outside of what we do at school. I am the only teacher at my school who does PE. Every Wednesday we have 30-45 minutes of physical education. We do activities such as relay races, scooters, basic soccer skills, dancing and yoga.
