Representation in literature can be inspirational. It is important that students from all backgrounds and ethnicities see themselves in the stories they read and listen to at school. The books that I have chosen do exactly that. Representation matters! Being exposed to literature that is representative of the diverse group of students I teach will help them feel included and reinforce positive views of themselves. I am hoping that these books allow my students to not only see themselves represented in literature, but will encourage them to ask questions and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. This diverse book list will strengthen my students' views of themselves in a positive way and inspire them!
