Oftentimes they enter the classroom empty--from hunger, economic disadvantage and lack of support. However they have loving hearts that need to be nurtured. They definitely brighten up my day when they enter the classroom. I enjoy being able to provide a loving, nurturing environment that provides them with a feeling of safety and security. They look around at all of the colorful artwork around them and it seems to energize them. When given a project or game they get excited if it is colorful and inviting. A black and white piece of paper just won't do. That seems boring. The majority of my students qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunch. They may not have a lot at home, so in my classroom I try to provide them with as many of the tools as I possibly can to help them enjoy their journey. I utilize all resources to make their day at school a memorable one, every day. I want them to want to come back and see what will happen each new day. I try to give them hope.
