This year our class will incorporate Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) into our curriculum. Students will need to develop a solid understanding of engineering standards as part of the NGSS framework. We need materials that will help create a weekly 'Engineering Lab' in our classroom.
The materials in the lab will help students conceptualize, plan, create, and problem-solve as they build numerous engineering projects. The contraption sets and marbles will be used by students to learn more about motion, energy, and how ramps and simple machines work. Students will use the wooden blocks and bridge set to learn about bridge design and structure which will help them design their own bridge using toothpicks. We will also be building catapults, bows and arrows, and rockets with the materials we are requesting. These projects will help students EXPLORE what real life engineers do. It will also provide students with rich hands-on learning experiences that will ENGAGE and EXCITE future engineers!
