I am a teacher at a magnet for arts and leadership/ Title 1 school. The curriculum targets the positive development of the whole child as he or she transitions from childhood through adolescence in the middle school years. The mission of my school is to establish a partnership with our greater community, by committing to challenging and supporting our students to reach their highest intellectual, physical, emotional and social potential. As a 7th grade English/ Language Arts (ELA) teacher it is my duty to encourage students to read and engage them in genres that take them on roller coaster rides through the jungle or become a well-known detective that solves vampire crimes. It is imperative that students become avid readers because it is a life skill that they need. Engaging them to become excellent readers is having a variety of materials to choose from.
