Research supports that if students' bodies are not regulated, they will not be able to access learning opportunities to their greatest capacity. With the majority of my students having autism or attention deficit hyperactive disorder, focus and sensory challenges often impact their ability to fully engage in our communication lessons and activities. Flexible seating options provide students with a tool to help with focus. The Bouncy Bands for School Chairs allow students to move their legs and feet with resistance without moving their entire body. The Wiggle seat allows the students to move in their seat while getting input from the seat. Both the Adjustable Wobble Chair and the No Roll Balance Ball give students an alternative seat which allows for movement while requiring the students to engage their bodies by keeping their feet flat on the ground and engrossing core muscles. All these forms of flexible seating are tools to assist students with body regulation. By donating to our project, not only are you assisting my students with attention and focus but you are helping them make progress in the area of communication by providing the students with the tools they need to actively participate in speech-language activities. Communication is one of the most valuable skills to a person can possess. By teaching my students to regulate their bodies and provide them with valuable, meaningful speech-language intervention, my students will flourish as individuals and community members.
