Our school culture can be described as warm and welcoming. The students that I work with may have low scores on local and state assessments. These students are pulled in small groups to help them achieve and make gains in Math. They are given extra time and attention to help and record work in their journals and composition books. A lot of hands-on activities are used and students are required to make the real world connection in Math. Our district is now fully aligned with the Florida State Standards and the requirements of Math entail showing and explaining their work. "This requires a lot of paper and pencils," stated one of my students.
