My math students are 7th graders who are performing below grade level on state tests. They have great ideas, but are cautious and reluctant to engage because they have not had positive experiences with math in the past. My goal is to support them in learning "how" to learn, to provide a safe environment where making mistakes is a path to learning, to get them excited about problem solving in real life contexts, to let them know the power of perseverance. My goal is to help them discover their personal "brilliance" and to have confidence in their ability to tackle math problems. My students arrive with little confidence or interest in math, but evolve to feeling confident to volunteer and participate in solving problems. They arrive at my door with various levels of core math skills. I would like to have technology available in my classroom to be able to access the plethora of resources available to challenge my students to improve their skills at whatever level they are.
