"Fill your house with stacks of Books, in all the crannies and all the nooks" - Dr. Seuss. The quote is exactly what I want to do in my classroom. Our classroom consists of 20 uniquely driven and enthusiastic children. They are mostly boys with disabilities ranging from Specific Learning Disability to Autism Spectrum Disorder. My students are extremely below (4-5 grade levels below) their reading grade level, and a higher exposure to books can help improve their self-confidence, drastically. Most of my students read at a pre-kindergarten or Kindergarten reading level and they are in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Despite the odds against them, they have an active drive to learn to read that I have yet to witness elsewhere. My students are learning to explore the world through reading. Hearing my children read to themselves demonstrates to me that they are capable of accomplishing more than what the world has declared they could do.
