Our students see unforgettable acts of violence often on their loved-ones. It's extremely common for our students to be personally affected by homicides and other devastating traumas in the home. I want my students to have healthy outlets that will lead them to positive lifestyle decisions in their future.
I am creating a fitness center for our students so they have a foundation in sports, cooperative games and fitness education. Sadly, only about 10% of our students are lucky enough to have the resources to play on a team so I might be their last stop for PE. I want them to have a place to go when they want to improve their fitness or they want to process their pain.
Currently we have one medicine ball. The kids absolutely love it and use it cooperatively. I would love to have an entire medicine ball station. We have three punching bags but only one set of ripped gloves. Students love getting a workout hitting that bags (and often not others after a workout). Lastly, we only have old, donated, flat basketballs for the b-ball unit.
