My students are creative and enthusiastic 4th-6th graders who want to be heard and are usually filled with the wiggles! But that's ok! The creative spirit needs to be heard. It needs to wiggle and express itself! I have earned an appreciation for what I call controlled chaos! The noise level may be higher than normal but if you really listen you will learn why. They are collaborating, discussing and critiquing. Sometimes they grunt, groan and squeal but they are releasing pressure and letting off steam! If you can get past the noise you will also see that they are exploring, creating and working! And yes...they are actually listening! If we are listening to music while we work and they start to chair dance we take a break and dance it off! Sometimes we will even get an extra special solo performance! Then...back to work! Learning is important but it is the smile and twinkle in their eyes that keeps me teaching!
