My students are a very diverse, wonderful, caring, and energetic team. Our school feels like a family, and each staff member shows care and responsibility for every student in the school. As a school team of staff, we are committed to doing whatever it takes, in and out of school hours, to help all our students succeed. We are part of an inner city district, so there are many students who come to school who must have food, clothing, attention, and comfort before they are able to learn. A high percentage of our students have a constant need to move. As students try to meet this need to move with by manipulating objects such as stretchy wristbands or squeeze balls, their attention to instruction is lost. I also try to accommodate this need for movement with short movement breaks such as free dance or yoga, but the frequency of these are limited in our tight academic schedule and they do not meet students' needs for movement. So, a new way to meet our movement needs is required.
