My students are fun loving young people. I have seventh and eighth grade students. 95% of my students are reading on a PreK-second grade levels. All are living with parents that are experiencing some level of drug abuse. Many of my students are showing very little interest in education and appear to have very little desire to learn. I believe that this is due to their poor reading levels and the embarrassment that is attached to being illiterate. It is my desire to use these five iPad minis to reintroduce my students to reading and by the end of the school year I would like to see at least a two grade levels of growth in their reading abilities. My school is a blessing to most students. However, for my students it appears to be a never ending academic maze. This is due to the demands of the new Common Core Standards and my students' inability to keep up. My school only has one computer lab (that the regular education students seem to dominate). You gift would be of great help.
