I’ve been doing my research and working with the occupational therapist at my school to better understand how to jump start flexible seating in my classroom. This veteran teacher must continue to learn how to best instruct and engage these ever-growing minds and bodies. Flexible seating offers many opportunities for students to strengthen their mind and as well as their body. Imagine students feeling empowered to make choices on where they get to work. Imagine students having the chance to collaborate with their peers on projects and build their community spirit. Imagine the student who struggles to stay in a desk has options to stand, stretch out of the floor, or use alternative seating to relieve their anxiety and feel comfortable and safe and be ready to learn. I’m motivated to create this special environment for my students, and to help them develop positive experiences in my classroom setting. I look forward to seeing students engaged not only in their learning but with each other.
