I am a first year, second grade teacher in a Pre-K through 5th grade school with a widely diverse population. As 7 and 8 year olds, my students are full of energy and want to DO, rather than just sit and listen. Coming from a variety of backgrounds, my second grade students range in ability level in each subject. The one thing that all of my students have in common is their thirst for knowledge. With all of my students being on various learning levels, it is sometimes a difficult task to keep all students engaged. Students that are struggling do not want to participate due to fear of making mistakes and getting embarrassed. Strong students, on the other hand, understand the material and are ready to move on, so they are not always interested in participating either. The use of ActiVotes in my classroom will give my students, who have been surrounded with technology their whole lives, a reason to stay engaged and participate in learning.
