Through the year in our early childhood library class experience, the students get to participate in all of the six learning centers, including a puppet center, writing center, science discovery center, reading center and listening center. After consulting with mentor teachers and educators, I have decided to open a "Maker Space" center where the students can use the full extent of their imaginations and skills to create and build story characters and/or buildings, machines or other creations. The chip board, tape, glue dots, pipe cleaners, craft eyes, and foam shapes will all be a part of this new and exciting addition to the Library Class learning centers. They will use books - both nonfiction and fiction - as inspiration for some of their creations. They will build their literacy skills as they plan for their creation and as they label their project upon completion.
